I am completely new on this type of program, unfortunately. Got the 4.0 demo version downloaded and tried to get to know the functions. Simply I don't understand how to write subtitles and how to insert them, I don't understand how that works at all. Maybe very stupid question, but it will be great to get help as soon as possible, because I was offered a job with this program and will only have a chance if will be able to use it normally.

The first thing you have to do after opening a VIDEO is to insert the boxes for the subtitles. Load the movie then go to Subtitle > Insert after. Once the box on the right is added with timing, click the image and start typing. Use the arrows under EDIT (next to the video) to adjust the timing. After you have adjusted the timing and typed the text, insert another box and so on. Use the elements on the screen to modify and adjust the subtitles.
